My heart won't let my feet do things they should do

I thought that for a change instead of just mentioning music I'd show you both music and dance by some of my favourite performers. This, ladies and gentlemen, is how I entertain myself on the internet.

This, folks, is the legendary Fred Astaire. He is just amazing. I'd say more but words do not suffice in informing you of his awesomeness, so you simply have to watch him perform. This is the video of 'Puttin' on the Ritz' which was meant to be his farewell dance when he initially decided to retire. His dance routine is perfection.

This is like one of my favourite song and on-screen couple of all time - Fred & Ginger performing 'I won't dance'. He's the epitome of grace, and she charm.

Here's one more of Fred & Ginger, also from the movie Top Hat, in which they argue through dance (you'll see what I'm talking about at 2:40). I won't lie, it made me squeal. The song is called 'Too Hard to Handle' and isn't Ginger just stunning in this one? She moves as if she were a feather!

I wanted to post more of Fred & Ginger, but then I'd probably end up posting all their routines and cause massive crashes of hard drives. So I shall introduce you to another performer I have fallen in love with - Gene Kelly, most famous in our generation for 'I'm singing in the rain'. Here he tap dances in roller skates! I can't even dance well on my own two feet, and he dances in roller skates as if it were a breeze. Makes a person envious.

(By the way, Fred & Ginger have a dance on roller skates as well! Just thought I'd mention it. :D "You like toe-may-toes and I like toe-mah-tahs...")

And this is another Gene Kelly. This was the song that made him famous, the very first movie which used the mirror technique (I think). It's just awe-inspiring how he can dance in such a captivating manner in that desolate-looking scene.

In those days actors actually came up with these routines themselves and they practiced weeks beforehand so that they didn't have to do too many retakes. Both Fred and Gene were perfectionists. They were extremely passionate about dancing, and Gene even more so in proving it wasn't purely a feminine trade (he wanted to encourage more males to take up dancing). None too surprisingly, they both are remembered for revolutionizing the movie industry with their dance and filming techniques.

And this is what I've been building up to: Fred & Gene performing the ever famous 'The Babbitt and the Bromide'. Oh man, when I first watched this clip my heart was doing somersaults. Even though they were good friends they've only performed together on screen two or three times. I love, love, love the cheekiness of the intro.

(By the way, Rita Hayworth is the actress Gene Kelly acted with in his first movie, the one in which the mirror dance is featured in. She's another amazing dear.)

But seriously, can you imagine being able to dance like them? I'd be the snobbiest brat alive if I could. And I'd always argue through dance. And dance with roller skates on. And shoot people with my dancing cane. Oh man oh man! Just how awesome would that be? And I'd wear a top hat ALL THE TIME. I'd glue it on to my head (ok, not really, it's just the excitement talking).

I want tap shoes and talent please.

Also, as you may have noticed, I am an old, old, old, old, old soul. Probably older than dancing.

Older than rocks? :O

(I like to amuse myself with the most idiotic thoughts.)
